Celebrating Binghamton Families

The Binghamton University campus has been a home away from home for spouses Geoffrey Gould and Elizabeth “Libby” Tucker for a combined total of 56 years. Geof worked as director of admissions (and later parent relations) for 26 years until his retirement in 2002. Libby has worked for 30 years as a faculty member in the English department and as faculty master of the Dickinson and Apartment communities.

Gould Family

It’s only natural their son Peter Gould ’08 would feel right at home on campus, too. He attended the Campus Pre-School as a youngster and is a senior sociology student interning with his former kindergarten teacher there. He enjoys the experience and has fond memories of his formative years spent on campus.

"I spent a lot of time in Dickinson Community growing up,” said Peter. “The students treated me like a younger brother. It was a lot of fun. I chose to attend Binghamton because it was familiar to me and I knew it was a good school because of my special experiences.”

For Libby, it has been rewarding to not only nurture and guide her son, but to advise thousands of other students over the years.

"Along with the rest of the Residential Life staff, I work with the students, encouraging them to make whatever choices seem best,” she says.

Sometimes that advice has even included laundry tips for the many freshmen that sought her assistance when her office in the Dickinson Community faced the laundry room.

Geof has felt privileged to help acquaint and welcome thousands of families to the University.

"Helping provide access for talented students to our high-quality, affordable education is part of what made admissions work at Binghamton so special for me,” he said. “Still hearing from several who were admitted and enrolled, did well and now are enjoying a good career and, in some cases, a marriage and family, is one of the great rewards of spending 26 years here.”

"We have been grateful for the opportunity to be part of the University’s growth,” Libby said. “We will always care about the University. It’s a wonderful place for students to live, learn and make plans for their lives after commencement. We hope that other families will enjoy Binghamton University as much as we have.”
