"Remember the past . . . Visit the future"
That's
the theme for Binghamton University's Homecoming weekend, October
12-14. Traditionally a student event sponsored by the Student Association,
this year's Homecoming marks the first time the University Alumni
Association is co-sponsoring the event and offering activities of
interest to alumni as well as current students.
"Holding an event at this time of year offers
alumni the opportunity to interact with students and to share in
the excitement and energy of all the traditional Homecoming events,"
said Marty Triano '76, president of the Alumni Association.
Events currently on the schedule include NCAA
Division I men's and women's soccer matches, a barbecue, a "Jazz
in Film" concert, a Theatre Department performance of The Firebugs,
and, on Friday, October 12, a "Midnight Madness" celebration marking
the first date the Binghamton Bearcats basketball teams may hold
practice. The weekend will also focus on the University's Greek
community, with events highlighting sororities and fraternities
past and present.
Homecoming weekend also offers a chance to reconnect
with things old and familiar, such as the peaceful trails of the
Nature Preserve. Visits to local restaurants and other favorite
haunts are on the agenda for more than a few alumni who've already
said they will be attending.
The Alumni Association plans to make this a
family-friendly weekend, so be sure to bring your children. Special
activities for children are scheduled, and babysitters may be available.
(Contact the alumni office for more information on this.)
So "come home again or for the
first time" and participate in this historical event for Binghamton
University!
