debate on testing of school-aged children and what it does
to the quality of education has engaged parents, teachers, teacher
educators and legislators nationwide. Primary points in this debate
were aired this spring at community forums hosted by faculty members
at Binghamton University's School of Education and Human Development
(SEHD).

Winged warriors: Researchers track West
Nile virus via predator and prey
Like mountain climbers assailing a peak from different
slopes, researchers Julian Shepherd and Anne Clark are using different
approaches to reach a common goal. Shepherd, an expert on insects,
and Clark, an authority on the social behavior of birds, are working
on two separate research projects that may have an impact on New
York state's three-year-old battle against the West Nile virus.
