Pat Norris, MA, recalls with fondness his two years as one of the first graduate students at Harpur/SUNY Binghamton. He went on to earn a doctorate in American Studies from the University of Minnesota in 1976 and has spent the last 30 years in history museums. Joani Sedaca writes that her daughter Amanda Sedaca-Rosenberg ’05 joins her as a Binghamton alumna. Her younger daughter, Jessica, is currently a junior at Brandeis University. Matt Intrieri, MSCS, celebrates 40 years at Lockheed Martin/IBM, Owego, N.Y. In March, he celebrated 20 years in the Computer Science department at Binghamton University, where he teaches two sections of CS-345, software engineering.
Michael Shernoff is in full-time private practice as a psychotherapist in Manhattan and is on the faculty at Columbia University School of Social Work. He was involved in designing the first generation of gay-positive AIDS prevention interventions and became concerned about the rise in rates of unprotected sex by gay men, which led him to write his most recent book, Without Condoms: Unprotected Sex, Gay Men and Barebacking. Adele Bass has just been awarded the title of professor at the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, Calif., where she’s been teaching for the past 16 years. In 2001 she earned her MFA in Media Design and has added web development to her thriving communication-design business. Adele is happily living in Altadena (far away from the snow) with two cats and a parrot. Through Jewish Big Brothers she is a big sister to a lovely 10-year-old boy. She’s in the process of buying the house next door to use as an art studio and house her 100-year-old letterpress. Evanne (Riter) Jordan is a professional psychic channeler/counselor/instructor. In addition, after teaching full time for more than 25 years, she is a permanent substitute teacher for preschool, K12 and adult-education classes. Recently, Evanne produced a videotape of her psychic work, which will be distributed to the media and interested clientele. She is an instructor in psychic channeling, a medium for the deceased and living and provides readings on life, health, relationships and career issues. Therese McHale-Gallegos went grad school. Wendy Shure is a member of the SEC Musical Notes, a choral group. Members share a joy of performing and include of teens and adults with developmental disabilities. The group performed a selection of holiday songs in their debut appearance on Dec. 18, 2005.

Cathy Harasta, MA, just returned from Torino, Italy, where she covered her ninth Olympic Games for The Dallas Morning News. Cathy grew up in Vestal. Her husband, Joe, is an Endicott native. They have two daughters, Lindsey Anne (22 years old), and Valerie Marie (18). Lindsey is a 2005 summa-cum-laude graduate in government-politics from St. John’s University in Jamaica, N.Y., and works for the state of Texas in the Dallas County Child Protective Services. Valerie is a first-year student at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La., and is helping Hurricane Katrina victims.

Nigel Edward Allen writes that after spending more than 20 years in the publishing business working at companies like Gannett, Dow Jones and Fortune magazine, he has made the happy transition to the not-for-profit world of Covenant Hospice, located in Pensacola, Fla., which cares for more than 1,000 patients a day in a 37 county region that spans from Mobile, Ala. to Tallahassee, Fla. “It’s great work that matters, and I’m honored to do work that matters.”
William Fraser, MBA, has worked for IBM since 1979. He has worked as an internal auditor since 1994 based in Paris, France, covering various countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Steven Aaron Samnick recently accepted a position to lead all proposal activities at the Lockheed Martin Manassas site, which provides land, sea and air applications for the U.S. and allied military forces. Previously, he ran the proposal activities for the Critical Infrastructure Protection division for General Dynamic Advanced Information Systems. After leaving Binghamton, he entered the U.S. Air Force and was a commissioned officer during his 13 years of service, rising to the rank of captain. He received an honorable discharge in April 1995. He has one son, Kevin, who is a junior at Christopher Newport University majoring in biology, and has been married for seven years to Ellen Fink-Samnick.
Leslie Goldstein married Yitzchak Ruder on May 23, 2004, and became the mother of Yitzchak’s two girls and two boys from his previous marriage. She gave birth to a girl, Shoshana Raizl on May 25, 2005.

Ed. Simone, MA, is an associate professor and director of the theater program at St. Bonaventure University. In 2005, he played Shylock and Sir Toby Belch for the Michigan Shakespeare Festival. He continues his commercial voice and on-camera work and is the host of “Music from Chautauqua,” heard world-wide on PRI stations and the Internet. Kathryn A. Jahn is a puppy raiser for Canine Companions for Independence. She hopes that in another year or s,o “Dave”, a 7-month-old, 55-pound yellow labrador retriever who came to her this past July as a 10-week-old, 18-pound puppy will be an “exceptional dog for an exceptional person”. Mary Ann (McCowan) Fuchs, chief nursing and patient care services officer for Duke University Hospital and Health System, has been elected as the nurse administrator (hospital/health system) representative member of the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON). Fuchs began her one-year term on Jan. 1, 2006.
Ray Ward teaches graduate-level supply-chain-management and procurement-management classes for the University of Maryland. Ray earned his PhD in management from Capella University in 2002.

W. Douglas Tynan PhD recently completed a two-year term on the Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Head Start Research and Evaluation, having been appointed by HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson in 2003. This group designed and reviewed two major studies on the impact of Head Start. Tynan continues to serve as a special consultant on Mental Health for Head Start. He is an associate professor of Pediatrics at Jefferson Medical College and director of the Primary Care Pediatrics Mental Health Program for the Nemours Foundation in Delaware.

Barbara (Bonanno) Scofidio (former residence adviser from the Colonial Community) is working as a telecommuter from her home in Groton, Mass., where she is editor of Corporate Meetings & Incentives magazine. In her spare time, she is also co-owner of a growing artisan gallery, NOA, which represents more than 100 New England painters, sculptors, jewelers, ceramic artists, glass blowers and furniture makers (www.noagallery.com). The mission of the gallery is to promote local art and encourage public art projects in the Greater Boston area. Niche Magazine nominated NOA as one of the Best Retailers of Fine Arts and Crafts. William T. Frederick, CPG, just returned from a 50-day deployment to New Orleans with the Army Corps of Engineers’ Structural Safety Assessment Team. His team managed the structural assessment of over 127,000 residences on the east bank of the city and a few thousand in Placquemines and Cameron parishes. “I was awestruck at the degree and extent of the devastation.”

Cindy formed Behavioral and Neuropsychological Consultants LLP with a colleague in 2002. She practices as a neuropsychologist and clinical psychologist in midtown Manhattan. Jeffrey D. Miller, MA ’92, MAT ’92 married Francisca Angela Tjia on Feb. 14, 2003. They have a daughter, Amerasia Francisca, born on June 12, 2005.
Scott Haworth has become a partner in the New York office of San Francisco-based Sedgwick, Detert Moran & Arnold. Scott was previously a partner at New York’s Lester, Schwab, Katz & Dwyer. Scott’s practice focuses on the defense and trial of product-liability lawsuits involving industrial, children’s, and medical products as well as other catastrophic-personal-injury matters on behalf of corporate clients and insurance carriers.
Frank Morris recently launched Ecologic Advisors, a New York state Registered Investment Advisory specializing in environmental investing. Frank has developed the Earth Index of publicly traded companies that provide solutions to environmental pollution. “My respect for finance and love of the environment both began in Binghamton. Susan L. Anderson MA ’92, PhD ’94, was recently promoted to associate professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Currently, she is director of the Laboratory of Developmental Neuropharmacology at McLean Hospital. Sue is a recognized expert in developmental neuroscience. Her research is funded by the National Institute of Drug Abuse and the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression. One of her papers published earlier this year, “Stimulants and the Developing Brain,” appeared in the journal Trends in Pharmacological Sciences.
Douglas Kellerman has recently opened another office in Palm Beach County, Fla. He works in Ft. Lauderdale as a chiropractor. His son, Jake, was born on April 7, 2005.
Norma Saint-Vil Bernard married Dr. Serge Bernard last fall in Westchester, N.Y. Norma continues to work for IBM as a senior marketing manager for the Software Division and currently serves as a board member for the Binghamton University Alumni Association. The two live in Westchester and had a daughter, Mikaëlla Chloé, on May 3.

Karen (Chessman) O’Dell and husband Paul welcomed daughter Abigail Grace on March 30, 2005. She joins her sisters, Natalie and Charlotte.
Susan (Patterson) Guffey completed her master of science in nursing degree in 1999 at the University of Rochester. She was married to Matthew Guffey in August 2004. They welcomed their first child, a son, Alexander Vannoy, on April 12.
Craig G. Stark, MD, has joined the medical assistance firm International SOS and will be coordinating medical evacuations and emergencies while working between Singapore and Beijing. He is board certified in internal medicine and specializes in international health and aviation medicine. Previously, he was flight surgeon and chief of the department of aviation medicine for the NATO health clinic at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in Belgium.

Jill Green married Roger Straun on May 7, 2005, in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Attending the wedding were Monica Gibbs (maid of honor), Kelly Murphy Sambrook, Kari Brangan Jost and Debbie Katz, all class of 1993. Jill is a speech language-pathologist at Parker Jewish Institute. The couple lives in Kew Gardens.

She joins sisters Katherine (8 years old), Elizabeth (5) and Julia (3). “I’m taking a semester off from attending the post Baccalaureate program at SUNY Oneonta for secondary-science teaching certification to enjoy some family time!”
