Barry S. Winkler has become vice president-elect of The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He is a professor of biomedical sciences in the Eye Research Institute of Oakland University in Rochester, Mich. Barry and his wife, Susan, became grandparents for the first time when Aiden Leo Binder was born on April 26, 2007.

Jay A. Harolds has joined the Board of Trustees of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). The American College of Radiology appointed him to one of four physician slots on the ARRT board. He is medical director of the nuclear medicine technology and ultrasound technology programs at the University of Oklahoma.

Kenneth Peress is vice president of student affairs at Lake Superior State University. He says that Binghamton prepared him well for winter in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

Susan Hesse married Allen Ellsworth on May 13, 2006, in Endicott, N.Y., in a traditional Quaker ceremony, under the care of the Binghamton Friends (Quaker) Meeting. Susan and her husband divide their time between homes in Endicott and Ithaca, N.Y.

Roger Hall, a respected music preservationist, will be included in the 2007 edition of Who’s Who in the World. He is one of the foremost authorities on vintage American songs.
Martin Zehr was appointed director of the graduate program in psychology at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kan. He lives with his wife, Susan, and their dog, Max, in Kansas City, Mo.

Laurie A. Sperling was named a Distinguished Alumnus at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. She is the co-founder and principal of Health, Education + Research Associates, a firm delivering expert programming, planning and consulting services for a wide range of global laboratory clients.

Sheree Bykofsky, a literary agent and travel writer, had four books published in the last year. She co-wrote three books on poker: Secrets the Pros Won’t Tell You About Winning Hold’em Poker (Kensington, 2006), The Rules of Poker (Kensington, 2006) and The Portable Poker Pro (Kensington, 2007). Also in 2006, she published the fourth edition of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Getting Published (Alpha).
Howard Esbin says his Binghamton experience has shaped his everyday life, sometimes in very funny and unexpected ways. As he prepares for semi-retirement, he’s wondering what it will be like to relive a more carefree existence with some acquired maturity and disposable income. He wishes all the best to his friends.
Ilan D. Gilbert was named town justice for the Town of Yorktown, N.Y., in January. He will be running for election in November.
Ken Levey moved to the Syracuse area shortly after graduation and has been there ever since. He has two kids; one is a freshman at Penn State and the other is a junior at Geneseo. He continues to play tennis and basketball on a regular basis.

Sharon E. Hunt published Vail and Colossal Cave Mountain Park (Arcadia Publishing, 2007), a book that contains nearly 200 images of Colossal Cave, the Civilian Conservation Corps, area cattle ranches and the town of Vail, Ariz. from the late 1890s through the 1950s.

Diane Fischer Castiglione has become deputy executive director for the Bureau of Economic, Energy and Business Affairs in the State Department. She served for eight years as the director of recruitment. Her 23-year anniversary with the agency was in October.
Rob Minster married Sari Seiken on April 23, 2006, at the Vanderbilt Mansion on Long Island. David Levinson, Charles Rosenblum, Richard Solomon, Kathy Cerky, Steve Press, Reva Price, Eve Edwards, Jeannine (Benson) Plattoff, Mike “Kansas” DeBottis, all ’82; Helane (Brachfeld) Colvin ’86; Sharyn (Lerner) Brener ’87; and Paul Solomon ’88 attended. Rob is the founder and president of Always Refreshing Vending Services in Long Island City, N.Y.

Will Morotti has been a school counselor for 20 years and says he loves it. In between, he says he has climbed mountains in India, Africa, Europe, the Northwest and South America.

Jeff Katz wrote The Kansas City A’s and the Wrong Half of the Yankees (Maple Street Press, 2007).
Roger Rosewall was mobilized back to active duty, assigned to the Joint Staff at the Pentagon. He’s also an adjunct instructor with Henley-Putnam University.

Elliot Mendelson has joined the Chicago-based intellectual property law firm Marshall, Gerstein & Borun as an associate. Mendelson focuses on litigation and counseling in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. He has a law degree from Georgetown University and a doctorate in microbiology from the University of Virginia.

Renee Calarco’s play, “Short Order Stories,” was nominated for the Charles MacArthur Award for Oustanding New Play or Musical as part of the Helen Hayes Awards in Washington, D.C.

Lawrence Goldstein has been named chair of the department of internal medicine at Northside Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio. He lives in Solon, Ohio with his wife, Erica, and daughters, Annie (9 years old) and Shelby (7).
Timothy J. Houlihan, MA, PhD ’93, has been named vice president for academic affairs and academic dean at St. Francis College in Brooklyn.
Kirsten (Kreimeier) Balancia ’87 welcomed her third daughter, Catherine Sophie, on April 23, 2004. Kirsten has been enjoying her role as a stay-at-home mom to Catherine Sophie, EmmaRose (8 years old) and Alexa (5). The family lives in Southbury, Conn.
Bari Pearlman is a documentary filmmaker, whose latest film is now finished; it was slated to make its world premiere at the Brooklyn International Film Festival on June 3, 2007.

Lawrence S. Ward was recently promoted to vice president at Wells Fargo Insurance Services of New York. He has been with the company for more than 12 years and lives in Marlboro, N.J. with his wife, Bonnie, and son, Daniel.

Cindy (Weiner) Breitman welcomed Ean Andre on July 31, 2006. Cindy lives with her husband, Matthew Breitman, and son on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. She continues to work as a neuropsychologist at her practice Behavioral and Neuropsychological Consultants in midtown Manhattan. |
John Winter and his wife, Esther, welcomed a daughter, Julia Brynn, who joins siblings John Harrison and Madeleine.

Marc S. Bekerman was appointed as the associate director of the Graduate Tax Program of New York Law School, where he has been an adjunct professor of law since 2003. He continues to practice trust and estate law as a partner in the law firm of Fleischman & Bekerman. He and his wife Lynn Schaefer Bekerman ’91, a clinical neuropsychologist, and their 7-year-old twins live in Syosset, N.Y.
Andy Horowitz was selected to give the keynote address at the “Dare to Grow” conference on the Spirit of Entrepreneurship held in April in Owego, N.Y. He co-founded the internationally acclaimed dance ensemble, Galumpha.
Corane Hinckson received an MBA from Long Island University’s C.W. Post campus in 2006. She married Jesse Robinson Jr. in 2002; they met at Binghamton University in 1985.
Robert Michelson, MS ’92, has been battling stage four colorectal cancer for the last three years while raising three children and working near full-time. In addition to working as a director of regulatory operations for NYSE Euronext, he volunteers as a patient advocate with the Colorectal Cancer Coalition and patient research advocate with the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group. He lives with his wife, Margherita, and their three sons, Matthew (8 years old), Joseph (5) and Gregory (4) in Plainview, N.Y.
Patty (Powell) Dungan and her husband, Kurt, welcomed a son, Jack, on Jan. 23, 2007. He joins his sister Nicole (4 years old) and brother Max (3). Patty is an attorney but is taking time off from her career to be with her kids.

Stacie Goldstein and her husband, Ross Goldflam, welcomed a daughter, Kaitlyn Rose, on June 11, 2007. She joins big brother Jackson (2 years old). Stacie works in private practice as a child psychotherapist.
Chris Jackey and his wife, Diane (Aloisio) Jackey ’91, welcomed a daughter, Faith Priscilla, in September 2006. She joins sister Grace (8 years old) and brothers Timothy and Joshua (5) and Noah (4). Chris finally has his own basketball team!
Claire (Lynch) Glynn and her husband, Tom, welcomed a baby girl, Grace Noel, on Jan. 3, 2007. She joins big sisters Emily (8 years old) and Anna (6). The family lives in Charlotte, N.C.
Jason Siegel was named senior associate director of athletics at Binghamton University. He had previously served as vice president of marketing and communications with the NHL’s New Jersey Devils franchise. TOP

David Abramson and his wife, Lauren, welcomed a son, Ian Charles, on March 9, 2007. He joined big sister Aubrey Gale (2 years old). David is the general counsel of BBDO Worldwide. The family lives in Manhattan.
Lyda Consuelo Arevalo ’91 is currently a doctoral candidate in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Texas in San Antonio. Lyda received the 2007 Health Care Heroes Award for Outstanding Community Outreach from the San Antonio Business Journal.

Christina Boulougouris has joined the New York office of the law firm Norris McLaughlin & Marcus as an associate. She will work in the firm’s real estate and cooperative/condominium law groups. |
Brinille Eliane Ellis continues her career as a U.S. Department of State Foreign Service officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Istanbul, Turkey. Her primary responsibilities include resource management and the development, planning and implementation of mission support services.
Sheldon D. Fields, MS ’95, has been promoted to associate professor of nursing with tenure at the University of Rochester School of Nursing.
Gerard J. Galarneau is a urologist in private practice in Middletown, N.Y. He was named chair of the medical staff at Orange Regional Medical Center. He is going to celebrate his 10th wedding anniversary and is the proud father of two girls, Madison (4 years old) and Taylor (2). Evan H. Greenwald and his wife, Tracey, were thrilled to welcome their first child, Samuel Ross Greenwald, on Feb. 27, 2007. Evan works in law enforcement in the Phoenix area. Stacy (Hulbert) Coston, MAT was accepted as a science ambassador to the Centers for Disease Control in the summer of 2006. She is a science teacher at Waverly High School in Waverly, N.Y.

Rosalyn (Rimer) Goldman and her husband, Robert, welcomed son Matthew Corey on March 13, 2007. He joined big sister Abigail (3 years old). The family lives in Hillsborough, N.J.
Elena (Rosen) O’Connor and her husband, Stephen, welcomed a daughter, Cira Lucy, on Nov. 28, 2006. She joined brother Pearce (3 years old). Elena is an optometrist and owner of MaximEyes Optical in Manhattan. The family lives in Woodbury, N.Y.

Rachel Robbins was elected to membership in the Philadelphia law firm Cozen O’Connor. She was named a “Pennsylvania Super Lawyer – Rising Star” in 2005 and 2006 by Law and Politics.
Susan Ruderman married Brian Steinhardt on March 17, 2007. Susan is a media and business consultant. The couple lives in Manhattan.

Daniel F. Cullen has joined the international law firm Bryan Cave LLP as a partner in the Chicago office. His practice has focused on, among other areas, U.S. federal income taxation of real estate transactions.
Steven M. Ebner and his wife, Emily, welcomed a daughter, Elizabeth Hope. She joins big sister Samantha and big brother Owen. The family lives in Miami Beach, Fla. Steven is a partner at Shutts & Bowen, a Florida-based law firm.
Kyle Famiglietti and his wife, Sharon (Milia) Famiglietti ’95, welcomed a son, Timothy Jack, on Jan. 27, 2006. He joins big sisters Katie (7 years old) and Emma (2) and big brother Ryan (5). Kyle is an assistant director of business planning for Cablevision. Sharon is a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital. The family lives in Holtsville, N.Y.
Julie (Goldman) Terrana and her husband, Joseph Terrana ’94, welcomed their second daughter, Mikayla Sophia Goldman Terrana, on Nov. 18, 2006. Her sister, Aliya, is now 4 years old. The family lives in Kings Park, N.Y.
Cheryl (Hershkowitz) Shulder and her husband, Sanford, welcomed a son, Ethan Jakob, on Aug. 14, 2006. He joins sisters Jillian Rebecca (7 years old) and Alexa Paige (3). The family lives in Setauket, N.Y.
Allison (Hollander) Neidoff and her husband, Philip Neidoff ’94, welcomed a son, Zachary Harris on Aug. 20, 2006. He joined big brother Aidan (3 years old). Philip is a director at Citigroup Private Equity. Allison is an associate at Gibbons P.C. The family lives in Port Washington, N.Y.

Kellie (Bradley) McPoyle and her husband, Tom, welcomed a daughter, Victoria Margaret Ann, on Feb. 6, 2007. She joins big brother Tommy (4 years old) and big sister Meghan (2).
Marla (Feuerstein) Blair and her husband, Lance, welcomed their first child, Ruby Miriam, on July 8, 2007. The couple lives in Decatur, Ga.
Serena (Garcia) Geiger earned a master of science degree in nursing, with a specialization in nurse anesthesia, from Florida International University in December, 2006. She passed the national certification exam and works in Florida as a CRNA.
Andrew Martino has been named chair of the English department at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, N.H. He had served two years as assistant professor of world literature.
Patty O’Brien Pearson and her husband, Leif, welcomed their second son, Tiernan John, on June 12, 2007. He joins big brother Anders (3 years old). The family lives in Seattle, where Patty is a senior associate at the law firm of Gordon, Thomas, Honeywell.
Nancy (Ragonese) John and Ajo K. John ’95 welcomed a son, Ian Ajo, on Jan. 6, 2007. He joins sisters Isabella Elizabeth (5 years old) and Nina Carmel (4). Nancy is a stay-at-home mom and Ajo is a radiology fellow at Upstate Medical University. The family lives in North Syracuse, N.Y.
Erin Rodat-Savla and her husband, Ashesh “Ace” Savla, welcomed their first child, Miranda Vee Savla, on March 30, 2007. After graduating from Boston University with an MBA and MS in information systems in 2002, Erin joined ICEX, Inc., where she serves as managing director for a team that cultivates networking and learning communities for technology executives at Fortune 500 companies.
Sheri (Snyder) Taylor and her husband, Steve, welcomed twins, Ryan Matthew and Samantha Nicole, on Oct. 17, 2006. After ten years as a fourth grade teacher in New York, Sheri is a stay-at-home mom and couldn’t be happier! The family has moved to Freehold, N.J.
Beth (Sobel) Gripor and her husband, Guy, welcomed a daughter, Julia Helen, on Oct. 17, 2006. The family lives in Boynton Beach, Fla.

Nick Lewin and his wife, Leslie, had their first child, Samuel Leo, on Dec. 8, 2006. Nick is finishing a clerkship with Chief Judge Dennis Jacobs of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and will be joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan as a federal prosecutor. |
Gary Mozer was recently named senior counsel at Heineken USA in White Plains, N.Y. He and his wife, Stacy (Barnett) Mozer ’95, a third-grade teacher in Greenwich, Conn., live in Stamford, Conn., with their children, Daniel and Annie.
Stephanie (Rosenblum) Rubenstein, MBA ’00 and her husband, Jaron Rubenstein ’98, welcomed a son, Noah Meir, on July 1, 2007. He joins sister Alyssa Michelle (2 years old). Jaron is president of Rubenstein Technology Group, a web software development firm; Stephanie is a financial consultant. The family lives in Brooklyn.
Stephanie (Schulwolf) Newman and her husband, Adam, welcomed a daughter, Ilyssa Rose, on Nov. 24, 2006. She joined big brother Elijah Joseph (2 years old). The family lives in Columbia, Md.
Kristen M. Rezak graduated from general surgery residency at Stony Brook University Hospital and is starting a body contouring surgery fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

Julie (Welch) Dye and her husband, David, welcomed a daughter, Ainsley Kate, on March 13, 2007. Julie is the director of marketing at OnlyNaturalPet.com, based in Boulder, Colo.
Jesse J. Wheeler has been admitted as a partner in the certified public accounting firm Davidson, Fox & Co., in Binghamton, where he has worked since 1998.

Kimberly (Bard) Bierbrauer and her husband, David, welcomed a son, Samuel George, on Dec. 18, 2006. The family lives in Colorado Springs, Colo. Kim is a speech language pathologist and also owns a pre- and postnatal fitness business.
Lori Belkin and her husband, Scott Schneider, welcomed a son, Jacob Micah, on March 11, 2006. The following year, on Feb. 21, 2007, the family welcomed a daughter, Sari Tova. Lori is an editor with ICD Publications on Long Island and lives with her family in Mt. Sinai, N.Y.
Sarah (Edwards) Weyer, MAT ’00 and her husband, Christopher Weyer ’97, welcomed a son, Eli Christopher, on May 12, 2006. He joins big brother Ethan William (3 years old).
Yael (Erdheim) Wepman moved from New York to Boston in August 2006, with her husband, Joshua. She’s an attorney in the law firm Peabody & Arnold. The couple welcomed a son, Spencer Neil, on April 19, 2007.

Robert Ross was named administrative director of the pre-college division of the Juilliard School, where he was an intern after graduating from Binghamton. In addition, he is the administrative director of the biennial Starling-DeLay Violin Symposium at Juilliard. He was named dean of the Great Mountains Music Festival and School in South Korea, an appointment to take effect in the summer of 2007.

Joseph M. Sramek defended his dissertation in history at the City University of New York Graduate School and received his doctorate in February. He accepted an offer of a tenure-track assistant professorship in history at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill.

The couple honeymooned in Tahiti, before retuning to San Francisco where Jamie works for a hedge fund.

Michelle Greenberg married Eric Baum on May 5, 2007. The wedding party included maid of honor Stacie Greenberg ’04, and Emily Fischthal and Annie (Goldstein) Cohen, both ’00. Michelle is an associate at Cohen & Perfetto, where she practices commercial real estate law. The couple lives in New York.
Kristen Harnisch-Marzo is a family therapist with a non-profit organization in Brooklyn. She and her husband, Michael Marzo ’00, live in Westbury, N.Y.
Melissa Landanno completed a master’s degree in marketing at New York University, and was appointed coordinator of patient-centered care at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
Michael A. Leon has joined the New York office of Farrell Fritz as a litigation associate. He is a graduate of Hofstra Law School, where he served as senior editor of the Hofstra Law Review.
Melissa R. Quesada was named Miss America Latina for 2006. The Hofstra law graduate was listed as one of New York’s Hottest Latinos in February by the New York Post Tempo magazine.

Eric Landau accepted a position as director of government affairs with the Prospect Park Alliance in Brooklyn, a community development organization that works in partnership with the City of New York. He was the senior legislative liaison for the National Academy of Public Administration in Washington.

Diana Seitelman graduated from the Weill Cornell Medical College physician assistant program in New York. She wants to work as an emergency room physician assistant in Metro New York.
Heather Ann Tulloch married Jason Junkins on Oct. 22, 2006, on the Chesapeake Bay in Rose Haven, Md. They honeymooned in Venice, Italy. She is a research associate at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md.

IN MEMORIAM
Betsy Postow ’66 died on June 22, 2007, at the age of 61. She spent much of her career teaching in the philosophy department at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Her colleague, Richard E. Aquila, said he and others “will remember her as one of the most brilliant, yet also gentle and generous, and one of the most delightfully excitable, individuals they will ever know.” A memorial fund has been established in her name through the University of Tennessee’s development office.

Paul N. Ornstein ’70 died on May 2, 2007, at age 56. A graduate of Fordham Law School, he was a partner at the law firm of Levinson, Reineke and Ornstein of Central Valley, N.Y. He was a founding member of Congregation Eitz Chaim of Monroe, N.Y. and served on the board of the Orange County Jewish Federation. At Harpur, he was involved with the Jewish Fellowship and had a sports talk show on WHRW. He is survived by his wife Sheila (Rosenblum) Ornstein ’71, daughter Beren (Ornstein) Weil ’98 and her husband Shawn Weil ’98, and daughter Marjorie Ornstein. |
Monte Silver ’70 (a.k.a. “The Gap”) died in July 2006, in the San Francisco area from non-smoking lung cancer. He was 57 years old.
Diana DeSimone ’71 died on April 8, 2007, after a prolonged battle with breast cancer. She was the director of human resources for state governments and the University of Nevada. She had recently vacationed with longtime friend Kathy Freeman ’71 in Hawaii. Diana is survived by her daughter, Christina, and loving family.
Elizabeth D. “Libby” Rankin, MA ’74, PhD ’80 died in January 2007. She was director of the Writing Across the Curriculum program at the University of North Dakota. She is survived by her husband of 12 years, Thomas B. Steen.
Mary Elizabeth Patt ’87, MS ’89, PhD ’93 died on March 8, 2007, at the age of 41. She lived in Leroy, N.Y. She was the daughter of retired Sgt. Maj. Herbert J., Jr. and Betty Patt of Perry, N.Y. and is survived by a number of relatives.
Rosa H. Nieves ’95 of Isabela, Puerto Rico passed away on Feb. 24, 2007, at the age of 34 due to complications caused by congestive heart failure. She graduated with her sister Ada E. Nieves ’95.
