Michael (Mickey) Shaw, professor of education at Saint Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, N.Y., received the college's 2006 Board of Trustees Award for Excellence. He was also appointed co-chair of the International Reading Association Professional Standards and Ethics Committee.

Edward Odell is the co-author of Number Theory Through Inquiry, a book published by the Mathematical Association of America. Odell is a professor at the University of Texas at Austin.

Their youngest daughter, Ruthanna, is serving an 18-month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Susan Su completed a fellowship in the Christine Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program at the National Academies in Washington. This education and training program engages graduate students in the analysis that informs science and technology policy, and familiarizes them with how science, technology and government interact.
