Jerome B. True said his grandson, Jon True, started studying at Binghamton University last fall and has been playing on the club hockey team. Jerome was a pitcher on the University's first baseball team.

Robert P. Ellis published Northborough in the Civil War (History Press, 2007).

 

John Gottcent, MA '68 retired in 2006 from his job as professor of English and University Core Curriculum Director at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville. He also published his first novel, The Autobiography of Jesus of Nazareth (PublishAmerica, 2007).

Judith Ranlett and her husband, John, were granted honorary lifetime membership in the Potsdam Alumni Association. This recognized the faculty emeriti for their exceptional contributions to the Alumni Association, College and College Foundation.

Ronald G. Ehrenberg is co-editor of Science and the University (University of Wisconsin Press, 2007), a book that investigates the tremendous changes that have taken place in University research over the past few decades.

Jeffrey Gordon received the designation of Master Teacher at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, where he is an associate professor of geography.

Virginia "Ginny" Baker Hekinian was pleased the geology department celebrated its 40th anniversary at Homecoming 2007. She said her husband, Roger Hekinian, PhD '69, was the first doctoral graduate from Harpur College, earning his degree in geology. He retired from the French Institute of Oceanography in 2000, but has remained busy with a Humbolt Fellowship, which has led him to work in Germany.

Albert A. Dalia wrote Dream of the Dragon Pool (Pleasure Boat Studio, 2007), a medieval Chinese historical fantasy novel.

Michael (Mickey) Shaw, professor of education at Saint Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, N.Y., received the college's 2006 Board of Trustees Award for Excellence. He was also appointed co-chair of the International Reading Association Professional Standards and Ethics Committee.

Edward Odell is the co-author of Number Theory Through Inquiry, a book published by the Mathematical Association of America. Odell is a professor at the University of Texas at Austin.

David A. Hall and his wife, Carol, welcomed a granddaughter, Anna Marie Bytheway, on July 21, 2006. Their youngest daughter, Ruthanna, is serving an 18-month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. David is a senior auditor for the State of New York and an enrolled agent for the Internal Revenue Service.

Clyde J. Ikeda received the Physician Humanitarian Award from the Medical Board of California; the award was presented in San Francisco last summer.


Ken Johnson earned the highest recognition in public education, National Board Certification, in the area of early adolescence math education. He has been a teacher of honors algebra and geometry at Boca Raton High School in Florida since 1983.

Theresa DiMassino Cram started working on a graduate degree once her daughters, Melissa and Jennifer, each graduated from college.

Marcus A. Harazin was appointed deputy director at the New York State Office for the Aging in Albany, N.Y., where he oversees the Division of Community Services.

Stuart N. Kingoff is a captain in the New York Guard, assigned to civil affairs and emergency preparedness. He also has his own law practice.

Maureen Owens wrote her first poetry book, She Sleeps With Dogs (Foothills Publishing, 2007).

Lee J. Gartenberg was appointed chair of the criminal justice section of the Massachusetts Bar Association. He has been the director of inmate legal services for the Middlesex Sheriff's Office in Billerica, Mass., since 1982.

Mara M. Sanchez '78

Mara M. Sanchez appeared in the HBO Latino Film Festival as well as radio and television commercials.


Ralph D. Spaulding has worked as an attorney with the New York State Insurance Department in Albany, N.Y., for 26 years, and has been living on the 252-acre former Eagle Mountain Ski Center with his wife, Linda, and two children, Melanie and Jacob, for the past 11 years. Jacob has enrolled at Binghamton as a computer science major.

George Bianco was named to the list of "America's Top 100 Advisors" by Registered Rep, a magazine for retail stockbrokers and registered investment advisors. Bianco has been with Merrill Lynch for 28 years.

Mark J. Gentile '79

Mark J. Gentile, a director at the law firm Richards, Layton & Finger in Wilmington, Del., was honored in the 2007 Guide to the World's Leading Corporate Governance Lawyers, as rated by the International Financial Law Review.


Susan E. D. Neuberg is a partner at the law firm Nixon Peabody LLP in Washington, D.C., working in the firm's real estate practice group.

Julie L. Post writes a column in the Community Free Press in Springfield, Mo. She was ordained as an interfaith minister, earning a degree in divinity, with recognition for her work in spiritual health and counseling.

Marshall Reiss is a managing partner at Pixelweave 3D, a visualization studio in Greensboro, N.C.


Paul Bruno is the developer, producer and co-host of Career Czar, an Internet radio talk show that premiered on Alltalkradio.net last October.

Bill Decker looks forward to catching up with alumni after 25 years of globetrotting. He is married to Lisa and has two children Alex (11 years old) and Naomi (4).

Ron (Dixon) Di Costanzo, PhD retired as a professor of English and director of the honors program from Long Beach City College in California.

Robin Abramson, a long-time faculty member at Champlain College in Burlington, Vt., was named provost there, serving as the college's chief academic officer.

Cesar J. Ayala, an associate professor of sociology at the University of California, Los Angeles, is the co-author of Puerto Rico in the American Century: A History since 1898 (University of North Carolina Press, 2007).

Carol Graser published a collection of poems, The Wild Twist of Their Stems (FootHills Publishing, 2007).

Rich Hand is married to Justine (Holland) Hand '86. He wrote a motivational autobiography, My Life: Ignored! Life is Too Short to Ignore Yours! (HDI, 2007).

Stephen E. Kraus and his family returned to the U.S., settling in Raleigh, N.C., after spending five years in Sydney, Australia.

Sharon (Krosky) Kolchinsky and her husband, Todd Kolchinsky '88, welcomed a daughter, Michaela Erin, on June 4, 2007. She joins siblings Sarah (16 years old) and Tyler (11). The family lives in Farmington Hills, Mich.

Katherine H. McGuire was named a partner at the Rochester, N.Y. law firm Jaeckle Fleischmann & Mugel, LLP. She practices in the firm's intellectual property and emerging companies groups.

Suzanne Parsons and Ken Remmler welcomed a daughter, Grace Madeline, on Aug. 5, 2007.

Mark Solkoff, MA '89, MAT '89 and his wife, Debbie, are happy to announce their son, Avi, celebrated his Bar Mitzva on April 14 and 15, 2007. Alyssa Marko '86; Adam Brown '86, MA '89; Jill (Zavilck) Staffin '87, MA '89; Evelyn Behrend '89; Barri (Sperber) Feuer and Scott Feuer, both '90 attended.

Fred O. Williams, business writer at The Buffalo News, won first place for business reporting in the New York Associated Press Association Awards for 2006.

Barbara Hemminger-Bilbrey and her husband, Charles, lost their son SPC4 Charles E. Bilbrey, Jr., on July 26, 2007, in Saqlawiyah, Iraq, when an IED exploded near his vehicle. He was with the 5-7th Cav., 1BCT, 3rd ID out of Fort Stewart, Ga. He is survived by his parents, sisters Brianne and Shannon, and brother Patrick.

Lori Kerman welcomed a son, Kevin Andrew, on June 21, 2007. He joins sister Erica Rose (3 years old). The family lives in Bedminster, N.J.

Steven Lash was appointed senior vice president in the corporate finance department at New York Life. He is responsible for managing multiple core financial functions including actuarial, tax and treasury departments, and corporate development.

Maureen Donohue Mann is working in Massachusetts in home care nursing. She would like to hear from fellow Class of 1987 graduates.

Robert Mulligan moved to Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C., in 2006, after spending 18 years in Chicago. He married Trisha in 2002, and has two daughters Kylee (3 years old) and Maxie (1). Robert would like to hear from classmates.

Amy Cooper Cary is director of the archival studies program in the School of Information Studies at The University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. She serves on the Council of the Midwest Archives Conference and on the Subcommittee for Graduate Archival Education in the Society of American Archivists.

Denise Pirraglia Gaynor and her husband, Ed, welcomed twin daughters, Brooke Christine and Julia Francine, on April 14, 2006. They join sister Lauren Nicole (6 years old). Denise is a senior project manager with General Electric and lives with her family in Mohegan Lake, N.Y.  

Andy Horowitz; Marlon Torres and Howard S. Klein, both '02 are part of Galumpha, a Binghamton-based dance company that won the 2007 Moers Comedy Prize for Best Act, following a performance at the prestigious Moers International Comedy Arts Festival in Germany.

Lisa T. Felix joined the Philadelphia-based law firm Blank Rome, LLP as an associate in the employment, benefits and labor group.

Beth Lander Gibson and her husband, Tim, welcomed a daughter, Riley Sarah, on Sept. 7, 2007. She joined brother Sawyer (2 years old). Beth would like to hear from old friends.

Kim M. Thorner lives in North Carolina and practices pathology. She is married and has two daughters (10 and 5 years old).

Leemore McNamara Burke and her husband, Alan Burke, welcomed a son, Sterling David Castleton Burke, on Dec. 1, 2006. He joins siblings Madeleine (9 years old) and Alaister (5). Leemore is an obstetrician/gynecologist in Richmond, Va.

Maureen O'Halloran Foppiano teaches high school English on Staten Island. She has a master's degree in secondary education and is a certified teacher in New York state. She married Andrew Foppiano in 1998 and has two sons Nicholas (7 years old) and Daniel (2).

David Abramson and his wife, Lauren Rubin, welcomed a son, Ian Charles, on March 9, 2007. He joins big sister Aubrey (2 years old). David is the general counsel of BBDO Worldwide, Inc., and lives with his family in New York.

Virginia Blanton, MA, PhD '98 is an associate professor of English at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, earning tenure there in 2006. She published Signs of Devotion: The Cult of St. Aethelthryth in Medieval England, 695-1615 (Penn State Press, 2007).

Rachel (Levy) Constant and her husband, Andy, welcomed a son, Jacob Gabriel, on June 22, 2007. The family lives in Hawthorne, N.J.

Evalyn (Douchy) Feldman and her husband, Scott Feldman '94, welcomed a son, Matthew Benjamin, on July 19, 2007. He joined brother Joshua (3 years old). Evalyn and Scott live in Manhattan, where Scott is an executive director at Ernst & Young, LLP. Evalyn is an assistant chief counsel for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Lisa (Kaye) Grossman and her husband, Jeff Grossman '94, welcomed their second child, Sabrina Gabrielle, on Sept. 18, 2006. She joins sister Maya Claire (3 years old). The family lives in Port Washington, N.Y.

David Kane and Jordana Schmier '94 welcomed a son, Avery Orion Kane, on June 28, 2007.

Michael Roth and his wife, Marla Feinman, welcomed a son, Jesse Tyler, on June 15, 2007. He joins sister Rylie (1 year old). Michael is a litigation partner at Dreier LLP in Manhattan and lives with his family in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.

Michael Weinberg and his wife, Ilene Scher Weinberg '93, welcomed a daughter, Rachel Nicole, on Oct. 19, 2006. She joins brothers Joshua (7 years old) and Zachary (4). The family lives in Chappaqua, N.Y.

Mark Weiser made his off-Broadway debut in August 2007, at the Lortel Theater with his musical comedy, Kiss and Make Up, featuring an all-star Broadway cast.

Renee (Gomesky) Woloszyn and her husband, George, welcomed a son, George Joseph IV, on Sept. 13, 2007. He joined sister Alexandra (2 years old). The family lives in Grand Island, N.Y.

Georgette Niles has been working in the social work field for 10 years after getting a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She works in the family court system in Philadelphia, advocating for mental health services for juvenile delinquents.

Robert Projansky and his wife, Robyn, welcomed a daughter, Ashley Jordan, on June 29, 2007. She joins brothers Jacob (3 years old) and Justin (2). Rob is a partner at Proskauer Rose LLP, where he practices employee benefits law. He lives with his family in North Caldwell, N.J.

Susan Raphael and her husband, Bob Zort, welcomed a son, Jacob Lloyd Zort, on Sept. 1, 2007. The family lives in Oak Park, Ill.

Gillian Shapiro-Dobbis graduated from Rutgers University with an MBA in January 2007. She works with Citigroup, Inc., in Manhattan as vice president in charge of strategic sourcing for global market data procurement.

Diane Spaccarelli Pulos and her husband, John Pulos, welcomed a daughter, Julia Grace, on May 4, 2007. She joins big brother Johnny (3 years old). The family lives in Massapequa Park, N.Y. Diane is a registered nurse, working in the neonatal intensive care unit at North Shore University Hospital.

Deborah (Walman) Berkowitz and her husband, Steven, welcomed a daughter, Sari Ilyse, on Oct. 30, 2006.

Stacia (Wagner) Sparks and her husband, Aaron, welcomed a son, Luke Jackman, on Dec. 12, 2006. He joins brother Brayden (2 years old). Stacia is a software programming consultant in western North Carolina after leaving her job developing fuel cell components to have more time with her family.

Jennifer (Carroll) Neale and her husband, Russell, welcomed a son, Spencer Philip, on March 24, 2007. The family lives in Marlborough, Conn.

Michael C. Conrath and his wife, Michele, welcomed a daughter, Devon, in September 2006. She joins big brother Jack (3 years old). After living in Manhattan for 10 years, the family moved to Breezy Point, N.Y. Michael is a vice president and retirement and education savings consultant with AllianceBernstein Investments in New York.

Lisa Danish has joined the Richmond, Va., office of McGuireWoods LLP, as an associate in the firm's environmental litigation/toxic tort department. Previously, she was with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit Office of Staff Counsel. She also spent six weeks working with barristers in London as a recipient of the 2007 American Inns of Court Pegasus Scholarship.

Marybeth (Dretar) D'Onofrio, MBA and her husband, Tom, welcomed their second child, a son, Thomas Pasquale, on Jan. 25, 2007. He joins big sister Adrianna Josette (7 years old). Robert Dretar, MS '69 is a proud grandfather. The family lives in Endicott, N.Y.

Elizabeth (Grote) Watanabe and her husband, Shinjiro, welcomed a daughter, Claire Harumi, on May 1, 2007. Elizabeth is a scientist with Biovail Technologies, Ltd., and lives with her family in Rockville, Md.

Dara (Neiderman) Warshaw, a licensed massage therapist, opened her own practice, A Touch of Health Massage Therapy.

Michael Punturieri and his wife, Erin (O'Connor) Punturieri, welcomed twins, Amanda Lynn and Michael Joseph, on April 5, 2007. The family lives in Massapequa Park, N.Y.

Myles James Bearden

Erin (Tobin) Bearden and her husband, Roger, welcomed a son, Myles James, on April 30, 2007. He joins big sister Sarah. Erin lives with her family in Albany, N.Y., and works as executive director of the James Marston Finch Charitable Foundation.

Sharon (Wilensky) Ross and her husband, Sanford, welcomed a daughter, Danielle Emma, on May 15, 2007. She joins sister Shaina Lauren (2 years old). The family lives in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Chris Dennis and Dawn (Geis) Dennis '98 welcomed a daughter, Grace Kathryn, on May 22, 2007. The family lives on Long Island.

Tricia Ryti Dring and her husband, Todd, welcomed a daughter, Mazzy Delilah, on July 9, 2007, in Catonsville, Md. Tricia is an attorney at MedImmune, Inc.

Amy Gardner Patino got married on July 14, 2007.

Jeffrey Gershuny graduated from Hofstra University in 2001 with a JD/MBA and has been admitted to practice law in New York state and New Jersey. He has served in the U.S. Army Reserve since 1997 and is a captain in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps. He and his wife, Nancy Anderson, welcomed a son, Ethan, on April 5, 2007.

Danielle Knatz married Gerard Bello on May 20, 2006 in Las Vegas. She is a clinical psychology doctoral student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She earned the 2007 Ruth G. and Joseph D. Matarazzo scholarship for her dissertation research examining neurocognitive deficits and functional outcome in bipolar disorder.

Robert Leibowitz married Rebecca Moore in Rhinebeck, N.Y., on May 28, 2007. The couple lives in Port Ewen, N.Y. Hedy (Leibowitz) Johnston '92; Dennis Shrenk and Elias Lambros, both '97; and Emily Moore '06 attended.

Lauren (Sandler) Eskenazi and her husband, Jason, welcomed a son, Dylan Henry, on Aug. 23, 2007. He joins big brother Ethan Isaac (2 years old). The family lives on Staten Island.

Matthew J. Babcock, MA published his first e-novella, Impressions, with Wild Child Publishing. The work was a semifinalist in the Quarterly West novella competition. Susan Su completed a fellowship in the Christine Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program at the National Academies in Washington. This education and training program engages graduate students in the analysis that informs science and technology policy, and familiarizes them with how science, technology and government interact.

Matthew Bielski has been serving in the special forces of the Israeli Army for the past two years. At night, he is studying for a master's degree in government at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Brian Grillo graduated from an intense, two-month health education program run by the Peace Corps. He was assigned to the Village of St. Cuthberts in Guyana as a volunteer health educator. Prior to that, he was a cytotechnologist at Quest Labs in Horsham, Pa.

Jason Kaye is vice president of SB-EDGE, a national real estate and economic development firm, specializing in incentives and zoning/land use services. He previously worked in real estate development for the New York City Economic Development Corporation after receiving a master's degree in regional planning from Cornell University.

  IN MEMORIAM

Kathy Pirro Ackerman '73 died on June 26, 2007. She is survived by her husband, Edward Ackerman '73, and her children Michael and Nicole.

Alice Nuccio '82, a member of Local 510, Sign and Display Workers Union, and a leader in the social justice community in the San Francisco area, died on March 21, 2007. She was a core member of the organization San Francisco Food Not Bombs.

Tricia (Bohnenberger) Valles '95 died on Sept. 5, 2007 at the age of 34 after an eight-year battle with breast cancer. She is survived by her husband of 10 years, Raul Valles, Jr., '95, as well as her parents George and Pat Bohnenberger; her brother Michael Bohnenberger '00; her sister and brother-in-law Kristin and David Henn; and their children Erik and Kyle. Tricia received her law degree from Duke University in 1998 and was a partner in the law firm of Morgan, Lamb, Goldman and Valles in Tampa, Fla.
