To the Editor:
John Cohoon's letter brought back some memories. I returned to Harpur
College for one year in 1956-57 to work in the Admissions Office. My office's
window was the one in the upper right corner of the photograph found on
page 5 of the spring 2004 issue of the Alumni Journal. While
serving in that position, I remember looking at the final drawings for
the first building to be built on the Vestal campus. The viewing took
place in the spring of 1957. As a member of the class of 1954, I do not
recall any groundbreaking activities that year. With respect to the photograph,
I have a few tentative identifications: The person standing in front of
the column appears to be Mickey Reynolds; the person standing to the extreme
right may be Alfred Walden; the person bending over to the extreme left
could be Beverly Cowan or, possibly, Sylvia Allen. I am guessing that
the person sitting on the ground next to the sidewalk may be me. I could
be in error with any one identification or all of them. It was enjoyable
trying.
-- Very truly yours,

To the Editor:
Perhaps if Ingrid Husisian and Michele McFee had consulted my book, Harpur
College in the Bartle Era (1975), the questions raised by John Cohoon
is his letter to you [spring 2004 issue] might have been easily
resolved. Even though some of the construction of Harpur College was completed
by 1960, from 1958 to that time most of the students had to be bused from
Endicott to Vestal. Following the ground breaking in 1954, numerous delays
were incurred before construction began.
