From the Director's Chair

Send us your faculty stories

We need your help! Can you write a five-paragraph description of a memorable professor or administrator from your college days here at Binghamton? Can you tell us what made him or her inspiring, motivating and unforgettable? If so, we want to hear from you.

Throughout my recent travels and last May's commencement in the new Events Center, I've noticed one powerful value that's shared by graduates of all ages -- a deep respect for their faculty. This respect covers the gamut of character-types: mentors who helped the naïve discover and unleash latent talents, drivers who challenged the over-confident and encouragers who helped restore in the overly humbled a confidence that comes only from learning how to know what's true.

If you've always meant to thank a certain professor who touched your life, this is your chance. Tell us about your experience. Make it a good story. Write so others can share your delight and awe. Write so you feel good about telling the tale. But do write.

E-mail your responses to me at alumni@ binghamton.edu, or send a legible copy to: Editor, Faculty Stories, Binghamton Alumni Journal, Box 6000, Binghamton, New York 13902-6000. We'd like to share
as many tales as possible with your fellow readers.

We aren't sure how many usable stories we'll get. We may get none (I hope not). We may get far too many to include in the next few issues (that would be a wonderful problem). But if we don't try, we may miss some great stories, and that would be a shame.

We want to hear from recent graduates, from those in their mid-life and from those of you who may have been away for 50 years or more.

Please don't put this off; write now. Remember, please limit your writing to five or six paragraphs (250-300 words) and send it to: alumni@binghamton.edu.

Regards,

Richard Heck, your alumni director
