Peter Salgo '72 died July 20, 2002. He was 50. Peter, a social worker at Hospice Care Inc., was formerly a Legal Aid lawyer "whose dealings with the handicapped and AIDS patients inspired him to become a social worker to the terminally ill," according to his obituary in the Boston Globe. As an active volunteer for the AIDS Action Committee, Peter handled discrimination cases pro bono and also provided companionship and ran errands for AIDS patients. He earned his JD from the New England School of Law, where he also taught from 1977 to 1986, and his MSW from Simmons College. "He never saw himself as a lawyer. He always identified himself as a teacher," said Jim Marra, Peter's longtime partner, in the Boston Globe article. "He finally decided he wanted to deal with people more directly, so he got his degree in social work." Peter is survived by Marra, his mother, a sister and a brother.

Robert E. Reed, PhD '72, died July 1, 2002. He was 73. A veteran of the Army Air Corps, Robert was an associate professor of mathematics and computer science at SUNY Oneonta before retiring in 1991. He belonged to the American Mathematical Society and Mathematical Association of America. A musician, he played trumpet and vibraphone with various groups and led the Original Swing Band and the Contemporary Jazz Trio for several years. Robert is survived by his wife, Florence, two children and a granddaughter.

Sophia Iuanow-Lemonides '77 died May 13, 2002. She was 47. In 1997, Sophia founded a home-based cooking school for children, Global Feast. "The Saturday afternoon classes incorporated lessons in the history, geography and food of Africa, Europe, India and Mexico," according to her obituary in the Chicago Tribune. "'To her, shopping for fruits and vegetables was not a chore; it was something she delighted in,' her husband said. 'She read cookbooks the way people read novels.'" An art history major, Sophia worked at the Field Museum and ran a small catering business before raising her two daughters. She also volunteered weekly at Chicago's Inspiration Cafe, which serves the homeless. Sophia is survived by her husband, James, two daughters, her mother, a brother and a sister.

Marc Tarasow '88 died May 30, 2002. A physician of internal medicine, Marc received his MD from Downstate Medical College in 1993 and worked in various hospitals and emergency-care facilities. He is survived by his sisters, Deborah Tarasow Salomon '85 and Lisa Tarasow Langweil '88, MS '93.

Catherine Suzanne Kaddoura '94 died Aug. 7, 2002. She was 45. A certified social worker, Cathy was a supervisor of counseling at S.O.S. Shelter. Predeceased by her son, Cathy is survived by her daughter, two brothers and two sisters.
