Akel '77 earned her BA in social science from the School of Education
and Human Development. She has been a longtime supporter and volunteer
for the University and has demonstrated steadfast commitment to SEHD.
In 1999, Akel received the Alumni Program Development Award for her
leadership in obtaining a sub-stantial gift in support of SEHD's 30th
Anniversary Alumni Initiative. |
Tonya
O. Parris '92, a vice president at Goldman Sachs & Co. in New
York City, earned her BS in computer science from the Thomas J. Watson
School of Engineering and Applied Science and went on to the University
of Pennsylvania's Moore School of Engineering for her MS in engineering.
As a student, Parris helped facilitate the formation of a campus chapter
of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). She is a member
of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and represents Goldman Sachs
on NSBE's board of corporate affiliates. Parris was the first in her
family to attend college and her brother, Robert Parris '99,
followed in her footsteps. Their younger sister, Prescina, began her
freshman semester at BU this fall. |
Eunice
Kim-Gambino '96, an executive search consultant with AccountPros
in New York City, earned her BA in English and rhetoric. As a student,
Kim-Gambino served as a Phonathon coordinator for the Binghamton University
Foundation and was the 1996 Senior Class Council co-president. She
was an active and energetic member of College-in-the-Woods; serving
as a resident assistant, she received the residential community's
"Wall of Fame" honor in 1995 and 1996 and its Faculty Master's
Award upon graduation, and was the CIW commencement speaker. Kim-Gambino
is married to Louis Gambino '96. |
Alex
Huppé '69, an independent consultant and adjunct faculty
member at the Maine Maritime Academy, earned his BA in English and
went on the University of Virginia for his MA. He was formerly director
of public relations for Harvard University and, before that, held
the same position at Dartmouth College. As chair of the Harpur College
Advisory Council from 1999 to 2002, Huppé helped the council
grow from a local advisory board to a national council with an agenda
and purpose that truly benefit Harpur College, its students, faculty
and programs. He has endowed the Bernard F. Huppé Scholarship
in memory of his father, Bernard Huppé, long-time faculty member
and a founder of Harpur College. |

Alumni Association
seeks nominations
The nominating committee of the Alumni Association Board of Directors
is accepting applications for election to the board in winter 2004.
Service as a director demands a sense of humor, an interest in developing
lasting relationships with alumni, an interest in developing programs
and initiatives to expand Binghamton's alumni network, an unlimited
amount of energy and the ability to travel to Binghamton three times
a year for meetings. In return, we can provide you the satisfaction
that comes from serving your alma mater in a very important way.
Interested alumni should submit a brief statement explaining their
