by Gail Glover
Move-in days signify the beginning of the fall semester and a new academic year as Binghamton University welcomes returning and new students and their families this week.
Approximately 2,059 freshmen and 785 transfer students are joining the University community this year. Upperclassmen begin arriving August 26 and classes begin Monday, August 29. President Lois B. DeFleur welcomed the new students. "This is a very special group of students and one of the most academically talented in our history, with SAT scores of more than 200 points above the national average," she said. "Significantly, we also have an increase in out-of-state, minority and international students. All of these students are talented, ambitious and creative, and we are optimistic about their future here."

Alumni and Parent Relations Office Reorganizes |
|
Alumni and Parent Relations Office Reorganizes To broaden its outreach to the Binghamton University alumni community, the Alumni and Parent Relations Office has made a number of staff changes. Mary Woolson is now the Assistant Vice President for Alumni & Constituent Relations, serving as the chief liaison to the Alumni Association and working to better integrate the development and alumni relations goals of the University. Rose Frierman '90 is now the Director of Alumni and Parent Operations, providing leadership for day-to-day operations of the office, and coordinating the alumni programs, events and communications.
In addition, the reorganization is an exciting opportunity to hire both an associate director, who will focus on external outreach to the University's 87,000 alumni, and an assistant director, who will address services with campus partners such as admissions, student organizations, career development center, advocacy, and other areas were alumni volunteers can support the University's mission. A person in a newly-created 60% position will more strongly engage parents of Binghamton University students. |
