Almonte
appointed Dean of Arts and Humanities
Dr. Judith K. Winn, President of Bergen Community College announces that Dr.
Paul Almonte '86 has been appointed Dean of Arts and Humanities. According
to a news release, Almonte was Associate Professor of English and Chair of the
Division of Humanities at Salt Lake Community College in Utah, and after ten
years in Salt Lake City, he returns home to the tri-state area where he grew
up. At Bergen Community College, he will be overseeing the Arts and Humanities
Division which includes the academic areas of Arts and Communications, English,
Philosophy & Religion, and World Languages & Cultures. |
Lane
appointed VP at Wildlife Trust
Wildlife Trust, the premier international organization working to understand
the links between ecosystem, wildlife and human health, has appointed
Robert R. Lane '87 Vice President for External Relations. In a
corporate press release Dr. Mary C. Pearl, President of Wildlife Trust
says, "Bob brings a wealth of experience, leadership, energy and
creativity to this newly-created position. We are in an aggressive growth
mode, and Bob's proven skill in building relationships in the private
and corporate sectors is a vital component of our expansion plans."
In his new role, Lane is responsible for Wildlife Trust's fundraising,
branding, marketing and communications initiatives.
Kiely
appointed Director of E.M.B.A. Program
Susan M. Phillips, dean of The George Washington University School of
Business announced the appointment of Christine M. Kiely '87 as
director of the school's Executive Master of Business Administration
(E.M.B.A.) program, the oldest business program for accomplished professionals
in the metropolitan Washington area. In a news release Phillips said, "Christine
Kiely has a solid track record in managing and growing successful graduate
education programs. With GW's E.M.B.A. program under her leadership,
I am confident we will strengthen the University's reputation for
delivering outstanding executive education programs."
Friedberg
joins Besler Consulting
Michael S. Friedberg '88 has joined Besler consulting,
a leading financial and operational consultancy to healthcare providers.
In a corporate news release Phil Besler, president and chief executive
officer said, "Mr. Friedberg brings extensive patient access expertise
in the reduction of denials, converting self pay revenue into cash, process
improvement and key indicator development. His expertise will provide
our clients with depth of knowledge and level of experience invaluable
in their on-going efforts to identify unrealized sources of revenue and
strengthen communications between disparate revenue cycle team members."
Paniccia
honored by "Scientific American'
Mario Paniccia '88 has been named one of the 2004
winners of the Scientific American 50. The magazine annually
recognizes 50 individuals and organizations that demonstrate outstanding
technological leadership. Paniccia was honored in the computing
category for his work on building low-cost silicon circuits for
high-speed optical switching.
Paniccia's work was featured in the Summer 2004 edition of the Binghamton
Alumni Journal. |

Gras
Names CIBGNY Insurance Man of the Year
In recognition of this leadership and accomplishments, Terry M. Gras
MS '90 from the Otsego Mutual Fire Insurance Company, has been named "Insurance
Man of the Year' by the Council of Insurance Brokers of Greater New York, Inc.,
the council's highest honor. |
Gridley
to Lead Customer Service
Smiths Aerospace (LSE:SMIN) appointed Catherine Gridley, MBA '92
as the president of the company's customer services business. Gridley
is responsible for serving more than 1,400 customers in 140 countries
as customer services maintain a global network of support centers strategically
located to meet the logistic, technical and maintenance requirements of
its customers. Smiths Aerospace is a leading transatlantic aerospace equipment
and systems company, with nearly $2 billion sales and more than 10,000
staff split between Europe and North America.
Davoli Selected as MetLife Fellow
In an honor shared by hundreds of exemplary public school teachers across
the nation, Jennifer Davoli '93 has been chosen as a MetLife Fellow
in the Teachers Network Leadership Institute (TNLI). Through her affiliation
with TNLI and her experience researching education abroad and in New York,
she hopes to help influence policy-makers in making more effective decisions
for schools, students and teachers both in New York and across the nation.
TNLI was established in 1996 to connect education policy with actual
classroom practice to improve student achievement. Fellows read relevant
literature,
participate in online dialogues, and meet regularly with policymakers.
As a major part of their work, TNLI MetLife Fellows, teachers with full-time
classroom responsibilities, also conduct action research studies in their
classrooms and schools " addressing the direct link between policymaking
and its effect on student achievement.
Longing for Student Life
In an article titled "Craving College: Recent grads find themselves
longing for the student life" the Associated Press details the feelings
of recent college graduates on their lifestyle off-campus. Maria
Pendolino '04 was asked what she misses most about college life, "I
miss a lot of little things -- naps, sleeping in until noon and the feeling
that you are in the same place in your life as everyone else."
