To the Editor:
I enjoyed reading the
latest e-newsletter from Binghamton.
But I'm writing to communicate
the distress that I feel when I read anything that I get from my
alma mater. That's because I still believe that changing the name
of the school from SUNY Binghamton to Binghamton University was
a huge mistake.
Let's be clear: BU means
Boston University.
And for those of us who
support the concept of public universities -- who marched in "Save
SUNY" rallies and prided ourselves on attending the pride of the
SUNY system -- the loss of "SUNY" from our University's name still
hurts.
I still write a check
from time to time to support the school. But I always feel as if
I'm writing it not to the school I loved, SUNY Binghamton, but to
some re-branded entity that I don't really know.
Deep down, I know you
agree with me (whoever you are). So let's get the ball rolling to
change the name back.
Thanks for listening,

Editor's
note: Although the University's informal name is now "Binghamton
University," our legal and formal name continues to be "State University
of New York at Binghamton," as noted in the University logo and
all official campus publications.
