Students,
alumni enjoy financial planning panels
The Southern Tier Alumni
Network, in association with United University Professions (UUP)
and the Career Development Center, hosted a panel discussion on
financial planning in Casadesus Recital Hall Nov. 6.
About 70 alumni and community
members attended the panel discussion, moderated by Greg Ronneburger
'97, MBA '99, chairperson of the Southern Tier Alumni Network.
Panelist Bill Lewis, vice president, AXA Advisors, spoke on "Retirement
Plan Distribution"; Art Smith '81, executive vice president,
BSB Bank & Trust, spoke on "Other Income Sources for the Short Term";
Kevin Conklin '91, special assets recovery manager, BSB Bank
and Trust, spoke on "Stretching Your Paycheck"; and Michelle
Yurko '83, senior customer service representative, Charter One,
spoke on "Successfully Managing Your Debt."
Audience members found
the panelists to be knowledgeable and informative and said the money-saving
ideas were great -- "Stretching your paycheck was my favorite,"
said one. Another found the discussion on IRAs and 401Ks to be especially
helpful.

TAU Alumni
Celebrate Inaugural Event
From Sanjay Malhotra
'85: Another "infamous" TAU house party? Not quite, but the
alumni brothers of Tau Alpha Upsilon did get together at the Manhattan
Club Oct. 24 to celebrate the University's official recognition
of the Tau Alpha Upsilon Alumni Society. With the creation of the
TAU Alumni Society, TAU brothers are once again at the forefront
of Greek involvement in Binghamton University activities.
Founded in 1961, TAU
is the oldest fraternity on campus. With more than 500 alumni brothers,
the TAU Alumni Society will work directly with the University's
Alumni Association and the Binghamton Foundation to foster and promote
fundraising activities for existing or planned University initiatives.
In addition, the society will be closely involved with the current
active brothers of TAU.
More than 100 TAU alumni
showed up to celebrate the event in Manhattan. The oldest brother
in attendance was Bob Zolczer '65, and the youngest was Alfredo
Bernal '02. The society's coordinators, Brian Segel '85
and Sanjay Malhotra '85, along with members Salvatore
Caruana '73, John Walker '78, Marty Bernstein '83,
Paul Starick '84 and Michael Marcus '87, met with
University administrators just prior to the event to develop strategies
for the society's contribution to pending University projects. The
TAU Alumni Society plans to hold another event in February. [photo]

in New York City afterwards.

having an even larger turnout at next year's outing.
