What Alumni Had to Say About Homecoming 2005...

Howard Klein '80 and Steven DelSanto '80, Ed Winiarz '80 and Peter Shafran '80 gathered for a photo. "The four of us lived together from freshman year on. We have stayed in touch and live within 50 miles of each other," Peter Shafran '80 said.

Returning for Homecoming was like "coming back home" and it felt "good to be back," said Shamila Dilmaghani '05. Her Binghamton experience was "the best four years of my life" and she said "I never thought Binghamton would be a place I would come back to relax" but viewed the weekend almost as "a vacation" given the hectic, intense pace of her graduate school experience now.
"We lived together for all four years, these guys and I. We lived in Broome, Onondaga and then in Johnson City . Now three of us live in California . This is the first time I have been back. We haven't been together in a long while and we are having a great time!" Peter Lowenthal '80.
At the Res Life Reunion at Mountainview, Ray Russolillo '80 said : "Being an RA was the defining moment of my college career. I had a quiet dorm, it seemed, but the problems these students had. I dealt with a lot of serious issues here."
For Matt Schneider '05, Homecoming was "The opportunity to reunite with people in the settings where you are most familiar seeing them."
"The Union , the old snack bar (Susquehanna Room), that's the only place we still know on the campus," Bob Freeston '65 said.
"It's good to remember the past with all of its glories and flaws," Larry Schorr '75 said.
"You can only get that feel for all the great things happening on campus by seeing it, and reunions are the perfect occasion for that," Owen Pell '80 said. "It's a good time to take stock and think about how important BU was in getting us where we are in life today."
"Like it or not, friendships are often based on convenience and proximity - who you can easily stay in touch with and hang out with. It's tricky to do that once you leave campus and the university. Reunions can re-forge those connections," said David Berkowitz '00.
Pipe Dream Alumni Editors got together for a special reunion and reflected on the place Pipe Dream has in their lives today:
"I almost transferred out to design school, but I didn't because I enjoyed being here. Then I stumbled onto Pipe Dream and that became my training ground. If it wasn't for my involvement with Pipe Dream , I don't know what I would be doing today." (She was advertising director of Pipe Dream ) Robin Zachary '82, Creative Director, Bridal Guide Magazine.
"Every once in a while, I go online to look at Pipe Dream . There's a living, breathing University here with faculty doing cool research. I hate to see Pipe Dream report on mundane things like the budget." Matt Mendelsohn '85, photo editor, USA Today and former photo editor of Pipe Dream .
"We (Pipe Dream staff) came up with the title Pipe Dream while having a stream of consciousness discussion while taking a walk in Manchester , N. H. It just sounded good. Thirty-five years later, I am surprised the name is still here." Jay Rubin, '73.
